Market Segments and Their Products

The National Stock Exchange offers trading in four different segments namely - Wholesale Debt Market, Capital Market, Futures and Options and Currency Derivatives.

Market Segments

Capital Market (CM) Segment commenced its operations in the month of November’1994, on fully automated screen based trading platform, known as National Exchange for Automated Trading (NEAT) system. Where the equity shares, warrants, debentures of various securities are traded.

Futures & Options (F&O) Segment allows to trade with derivative instruments like index futures, index options, stock options, and stock futures, NSE commenced F&O segment since June’2000.

Currency Derivatives Segment (CDS) is roll out at NSE on 29th August’2008, following the launch of currency futures trading in US Dollar-Indian Rupee (USD-INR).

NSE also facilitated to trade in other currency pairs such as “Euro-INR”, “Pound Sterling-INR” and Japanese “Yen-INR” in the month of February 2010 and also introduced ‘Interest rate futures’ product for trading in this segment with effect from 31st Aug’2009.

Wholesale Debt Market (WDM) Segment is kicked off in the month of June’1994; this segment furnished the platform to trade on wide range of debt securities such as State and Central Government securities, T-Bills, PSU Bonds, Corporate debentures, Commercial Papers, Certificate of Deposits etc.
